What We Don't Like

  • Too wide for three across
  • Car seat weighs too heavy
  • A bit scorchy during humid temperature

Car seat safety is one of the most important things you need to consider when driving babies from the hospital or to the shopping mall. In the case of an unexpected accident, car seats can save lives. Such seats also give babies safety in the car before they grow old in order to be protected by a car’s seat belt.

We examined and reviewed the Nuna Rava Convertible Car Seat to check whether it sure lives up to its status as the ultimate in comfort and safety. In this Nuna Rava review, we also analyzed and observed various factors such as portability, ease of cleaning, installation, and overall value. Let’s get straight to the details!

Overview of the Nuna Rava

There’s no doubt that The Nuna Rava is seen on the market as the most glamorous and stylish convertible car seat, and it can fit perfectly into even the most fanciful of cars and SUVs. The Rava is very safe, compatible for newborns, and is extremely easy to adjust and install.

You may already be acquainted with the Nuna Pipa, Nuna Pipa Lite, and the Nuna Pipa Lite LX, but now it is time to introduce you to their older sibling—the Nuna RAVA convertible car seat!

The Nuna Rava convertible car seat features a 50-lb rear-facing weight limit, making for a handful of great seats with such a high scope. Nuna Car Seat Rava features two “True Tension Doors” (one for forward and one for rear-facing), which are panels that clamp down on top of the seatbelt, giving way to secure and fast setup.

retractable Calf Support Panel adds extra rear-facing legroom and provides further support for forward-facing children. The only argument regarding this seat belt is that it’s too wide to fit three car seats across in a single back row, which may be very relevant to parents with two or more kids. Moreover, it can also get a bit scorchy in hot weather conditions.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Nuna Rava

Before we advise you to consider The Nuna Rava car seat, it is necessary that you understand why this particular car seat stands out from the rest. Firstly, its extended rear-facing (up to 50 lbs.), side-impact protection with pop-out “pods,” and safety measures all combine to give firmness and compact.

For example, the push-open True Tension Doors compartment in the seat, which allows for more comfortable seat belt installations, is obviously cribbed from the feature of Britax’s ClickTight. Simultaneously, for older children is the extendable rear-facing leg rest, which is a riff on the Graco SnugRide 40 infant seat.

Nonetheless, by moving right with a no re-thread in the premium price point, Nuna Rava avoids repeating its past mistake with the Pipa. Harness and other quality features you would expect to include are retractable cup holders, pillow inserts for the infant or toddler head/body, and a premium LATCH.

There are five color choices—black, grey, dark blue, purple (blackberry), and dark red (berry). Even with the Nuna Rava infant car seat, your little one will, in due course, need a suitable booster seat. Till that time, this remains one of the most durable and comfortable car seats that can, without any doubt, serve them well.

While some parents may prefer the LATCH connectors system to be installed, Nuna Rava promotes, encourages, and supports the use of a seat belt to secure it on the spot every time. Though it doesn’t have a bubble level indicator, it has straightforward recline guides to help you understand the safest location or position to have your child in.

There’s also extra legroom and support always to keep your child or baby comfortable, relaxed, and safe. It does have energy-absorbing memory foam for added chest clip safety and, yes, the reassurance of peace of mind for you as a parent.

Key Features

Installation and Setup Process: Uncomplicated

Parents feedback on this seat is positive — folks love the ease of use and setup, thanks to its True Tension Doors feature, the RAVA is very easy to install. The five-level push-button recline is a winner, too. Finally, parents say they are in love with the RAVA’s plush cover, without questioning the most stunning luxury design on the market.

When constructing this seat, Nuna genuinely wants to minimize the widespread uncertainty about the lower LATCH anchor weight limits. They decided to do so by promoting the setup of the seatbelt. They did this using “true tension doors”-one for rear-facing and one for forward-facing-with their “simply secure installation.” The seat comes with premium lower anchor push-on attachments, but some labels discourage their use and promote seatbelt set up.

Rear-Facing Installation

The hardest part of the seat belt installation of Nuna Rava is that you have to unfasten and tuck the seat cover to open the “True Tension Doors.” But to be sincere, this is not hard at all and can be done with ease by flipping the integrated cupholders up to connect the rear-facing car seat belt path. (You can flip back down the cupholders once the setup is complete).

The next step is to determine and select the possible recline angle that will suits your vehicle and your kid, too (for newborns, a deep possible recline is suggested). Next, you have to disengage the harness, and lift the headrest to the highest position and unsnap the seat cushion to reveal the true tension door situated where the bottom of the child would go. The setup for rear-facing is color-coded in blue, and there are tips for setting it up marked on the door.

To open the door, press the button and thread the seatbelt through the rear-facing belt path and just buckle the seatbelt. It is essential to note that this seat is slightly different from other seats on the market because the True Tension Doors feature is not a seatbelt lock-off.

You should not tightly pull the seat belt or use any excessive force. Just make sure there is no slack in the belt. Then proceed to shut the true tension door close. You can get an absolute rock-solid setup without your knees tugging in the seat. This is why it’s really easy and straightforward to install.

The lower anchors require you to undergo all the first methods you’d typically gone through for a seatbelt installation. It is because the lower anchors are mounted beneath the True Tension Door rear-facing (that implies you can use the seatbelt too). Then, via the rear-facing belt direction, you thread the lower anchors, dismiss all the slack and close the true tension port. This procedure is not hard. However, in this scenario, the belt seems more straightforward than using the anchor, which proved to be Nuna’s plan all along.

A child weighing up to 35 pounds in rear-facing mode may use the lower anchors. The Rava is very compactable when the rear-facing is installed. With the seat in the furthermost upright rear-facing position and with the legroom panel stowed, it is a contender as one of the most compact rear-facing seats from back to front.

Forward-Facing Installation

The lower anchor setup and forward-facing seat belt may sound similar because they are mostly the same steps with the rear-facing installation. For this type of setup, you will definitely need to select your recline setting, untighten the harness, lift the headrest, unsnap the fabric and reveal the true tension facing forward door (note that everything for the Forward-facing setup is color-coded in red and the instruction tips are marked on that door).

Open the door, thread the belt via the open path, lock it, and close the door. And of course, also try to make sure that the tether is connected. It’s that simple. Lower anchor forward-facing setup is similar to that of the rear-facing. Remove them from the throuh rear-facing tension door by using the same method that you used to open the seat cushion, route the lower anchor strap through the forward-facing belt path, remove the slack, close the door, hook the top tether and then remove the slack.

However, this approach is not as easy as using the seatbelt since the lower anchors will only work for forward-facing up to 40 pounds; thus, installing the seatbelt from the start is more reasonable. Overall, the Rava has one of the most natural setup procedures on the market.

Age Range: Birth Through Age 7

In the infant insert on the Nuna Rava, there is a curvature to the bottom that helps make sure the baby is not too upright on the seat. Nevertheless, it also makes it challenging to give you an accurate measurement of the lowest harness. Babies are going to fit/suite-in differently, though most babies newly born are going to need a different seat, particularly within the first few weeks of their life.

Since the Rava provides extra legroom, it has been loved by parents as well as kids. You can count on it for providing your babies comfort from infanthood up to 7 years of age. Its design adapts the various flexible features from ten position recline to mighty headrest positions. You don’t need to worry about putting your kid in the Rava because of its flexible structure.

Design: Stunning

When it comes to design, Nuna Rava proves to be one of the most prominent ones in this department. As the Rava can be used with two configurations, it has versatility in its parts. The harness is also empowered with ultimate flexibility and comfort.

Some of its stunning design features are as follows:

  • Dual cup holders with flip-open feature
  • Ten recline positions
  • Two-position crotch strap
  • Ventilation panels within the shell

The RAVA is still exceptionally comfortable even with all it’s security fittings. Also, this car seat comes with its own unique extended rear-facing configuration that allows kids with long legs to sit still facing backward of the car (extra leg-room). This unique feature allows your child to sit while facing the back of the car for a long period, allowing for improved safety and a greater sense of comfort.

Nuna also introduces a 5-point harness “no re-thread,” which is easy to maneuver, one-handed, ten headrest positions. This car seat has flipped open cup holders on either side, so your child can grab their beloved sippy cup with ease no matter what position they are seated in your vehicle. The seat design and configuration are fitted on both sides of the car seat, with buckle tongue holders. Tongue holders house the seat belts buckle while you focus on getting your child seated.

Cleaning: Just Effortless

The best part about the Rava car seat is its cleaning method, which is quite easy and stress-free as the instructions and illustrations are embedded in its user manual. The user simply needs to follow these instructions when removing the pads for washing.

The RAVA seat is easy to wash using a mild detergent and cold water, but it is not machine-washable. It is possible to remove the belt, but it was better to clean it while it is still fixed in the shell of the car seat. It is easier to clean leftover crumbs and stickiness out with a wet washcloth. It is relatively easy to remove the cover if you follow the directions for reclining and setting the seat.

Though we found it a little challenging to re-dress the seat because on both sides, the cover has to be carefully tucked into the covering. The infant insert may also be washed by machine, but the wedge piece only needs to be spot-cleaned. Washing the harness and the shell with the hand using mild soap, sponge, and then towel dried.

Safety: A Well-Built Structure

The first and most important thing you should consider when deciding on purchasing a car seat is safety. As a parent, your wish is for the safety of your kids in case of anything. You need to know that the Nuna Rava car seat is fitted with a no-rethread, 5-point harness that can be operated with one hand and a 2-position crotch strap without replacement.

It doesn’t have added fire retardant chemicals, which adds as a safety bonus and sigh of relief. But the energy-absorbing foam and SIP (side impact protection) pods combine to maximize security, allowing the steel frame and armored belt path to be better protected. Even though parents may not come to terms with it, the truth is that accidents can happen when you don’t even expect it, and it’s imperative to have the safest car seat to protect our children.

The crash test results are quite healthy, as well. The Nuna Rava could be said as an ultimate baby gear due to its safety measures. Even the reason for being it different from other car seats is its good crash test results and a robust steel-reinforced frame. Eventually, the Rava is backed by a sturdy structure with flexible harness and headrest positions, which adds value to its safety measures.

Price: On the Higher-End

Do you have a high-end budget to spend on a car seat? Since the Rava comes with various worthy features, its price is also on the higher-end. Its price range is roughly around $430 to $470, which is quite high than the competitor car seats on the market. It’s all because of the quality and value it provides.

After going through the review, you can observe that the Rava comes with various unique features. From installation through LATCH connectors to flexibility of the harness system, it is a worthwhile investment. Other considerable factors of the Rava are its safety, crash test results, and ease of use.

Competition: Outstanding for Quality

Britax Boulevard ClickTight Anti-Rebound Bar Adaptable Car Seat

The Britax Boulevard ClickTight, which has an anti-rebound bar that helps secure the car seat when mounted in the rear-facing position, provides a similar car seat. If you want the next move up in safety, you’ll pay more for the added functionality at around a $330 to $370 price point, but many parents say the additional expense is worth it.

All other features are the same as the Nuna Rava, with a second layer of efficient side-impact protection added. Since the rear-facing mode is used up to a maximum of 40 pounds for babies from birth, the Rava can provide you with invaluable peace of mind to know that your baby is safe. The budget difference is not that much as well because both are high-priced car seats.

Evenflo Tribute LX Convertible Car Seat

This travel-friendly car seat does not have about as many features as Nuna Rava. There is no system installation of LATCH or harness and recline that is adjustable. The price tag for Evenflo Tribute LX is much lower at about $50 to $80. If you have a limited budget, then going for the Evenflo Tribute LX is also a good option than the Rava. Although the Tribute doesn’t have the same amount of features as the Rava does, the quality of it is not compromised.

Graco Extend2Fit Convertible Car Seat

Graco Extend2Fit is a great competitor of the Rava because of various feature similarities. The price range of Graco Extend2Fit is $180 to $220, which is comparatively half of the price of Nuna Rava. It does have a rear-facing limit of 50 lbs with extended legroom. The quality is also very eye-catching. It comes with a ten-position harness and a six-position recline.

The crash test results of Extend2Fit are also quite impressive. If you have a limited budget and your requirements revolve around primary comfort and safety, Graco Extend2Fit is the best option. We have also done a review on Extend2Fit that you can check out for more insights.

The Verdict: A Big-Budget Car Seat

The Nuna Rava is a car seat fantasy and a dream come true. It has all the feel and comfort features that all loving parents want, simple, safe, and straightforward installation with a top-to-bottom seatbelt and first-rate quality. When purchasing a smart rear-facing convertible car seat, it’s necessary to consider factors such as your child’s safety, health, and durability.

When you want to opt for the Nuna Rava convertible car seat, you will get a seat with simple installation, years of use, and materials that have been checked for effectiveness. For years, your child can use the car seat, and while it may not remain the only car seat they’ll ever need, it can certainly get them through a few of the main stages before a booster car seat is required.

Sure, some other car seats may have similar features, but the Nuna Rava provides safety, comfort, and durability for which you just can’t look past.
